Design Sourcebook: Pleated Lampshades

Some pieces provide charm in spades, and pleated lampshades are one such piece. Whether it's a standard, knife, or box pleat, these lampshades add character and classic style. Depending on the look you're going for, a different style will suit. The knife pleated shades are more in line with Danish design, whereas the standard pleated shades are reminiscent of classic English decoration. For me, the sweet spot lies at the perfect marriage of Danish and English decoration, so any of these will do.

I've rounded up a few options, both vintage and new, for you to peruse. You can also see the way I've incorporated one of these shades into my dining room here.

While pleated lampshades are certainly having a moment right now, they're truly timeless pieces. Whether you choose a classic investment piece like an Erik Hansen design, or a cheerful floral shade for your nightstand, I'm sure you'll love it!
